There has been nonstop rain since April started, with only a single-day break. With all these April showers, the roads have been wet and puddles. With these road conditions, it is dangerous to be driving on the roads. Most parents are worrying about their kids’ safety on the roads, so here are some precautions for driving in rainy weather.

  • Slow down on roads
  • Give plenty of space between cars
  • Do not use cruise control in case one car starts to slip
  • Make sure one’s tires have traction
  • Turn on headlights so other cars can see
  • Keep an eye out for puddles, they can easily make one hydroplane
  • Avoid sharp braking, some cars are not equipped with ABS
  • Avoid sharp turns, it can also make one’s car hydroplane

What to do if you start to hydroplane:

  • Remain calm, do not panic or slam on the brakes
    • Doing this can cause the car to spin out of control
  • Pump the brakes (lightly) like the ABS would do
  • Once you gain control over the vehicle, wait for the vehicle to stop to start driving again completely
