Seniors picking up their cap and Gowns for graduation.
Graduation is right around the corner for the 2025 seniors and junior grads. This is a huge day for all those who get to graduate from high school. It gives them a little more freedom to explore the world and work towards their dream career. Something that might not seem as immense on graduation, but is an enormous part of it, is the caps and gowns. Caps and gowns are essential for graduation as they serve a massive purpose for each senior graduate.
“It represents how far we have come. It’s a big milestone and shows we have made all four years of high school,” senior Kylie Williams said.
Each cap comes with a tassel that goes on top of it. A tassel is a piece of string that is placed in the center on the top of the cap. The students move the tassel from right to left during graduation when instructed to do so. This is significant because it shows people that the seniors have officially graduated from high school.
“The tassels are a way to indicate crossing from high school to adulthood,” Science teacher Kayla Dow said.
There are many students who wonder why they have to turn their cap and gown in after graduation. They are required to take their caps, after graduation, to the cafeteria and return it to Herff Jones the company that gives them their cap and gowns.
“It really upsets me because we have to spend a lot of money for our cap and gowns and then have to return it right after graduation,” senior Olivia Gibson said.
