Both the Minecraft team and the Super Smash Brothers team will go to state this Saturday. Over the course of the season, the teams have put hundreds of hours of work into each of the games that they play to get to this point. When the season started, everyone had high hopes for how this season and especially competing would go. Everyone had hopes to make it this far, and now it’s a reality.
“I feel like it was expected out of us. We all knew each other’s strengths and built on our weaknesses in the offseason. It’s a very positive environment. Everyone on the team is friends and we all get along well, so constructive criticism is very key and helps us build on getting better everyday,” junior Hank Stanton said.
Everyone is thrilled and very excited to be able to play at the State level. It is not every year that teams can compete for a state title in any sport. Everyone in the eSports room has worked so hard throughout these past few seasons, especially this one, to be able to get that standpoint and make their dreams a reality.
“I’m thrilled about it. I’m so excited that we have 2 teams going to state and not just one. They have put in so much work and I’m just so proud of them for being able to achieve this and be able to play at the highest level there is,” Coach Richmond said.
On Saturday, April 26, the eSports teams will travel to the state competition. The Super Smash Brothers team will face off against Carmel, while the Minecraft team will face three different teams in order to get the state trophy. Everyone in Mooresville will cheer for them as they will have a pep rally the day before the competition. Everyone’s morale is high and the teams are feeling good before their way to state.
“I was more surprised to be able to go to eSports so it’s a new experience that I am excited about. I did not think that we would make it this far at all to be honest, it really surprised me and I am so excited about it,” junior Bladen Allen said.
