Seniors Tyler Rakestraw and Emily Dean after winning King and Queen.
This year, the Mooresville prom was held at the Biltwell Event Center in Indianapolis. As time reached 7 p.m., everyone lined up and waited on the front deck until the events started. When the clock struck 7 p.m., people were let in to discover a downstairs filled with food and drinks, and an upstairs that held drinks and dancing. People also got wristbands as a way to get into the post prom.
“Honestly, I did not think we were gonna win. I thought Zaiah and Brevon were gonna win since their names were big at Homecoming, but it definitely surprised Emily and I that we won. It was a fun night for everyone it felt like with a whole lot of dancing and singing from everyone, so that was lit,” senior Tyler Rakestraw.
As everyone made their way into the event, and found their way upstairs to the dance floor, the music started to get louder and everyone was eventually dancing, jumping, and singing. Friends gathered, people drifted around going from back, to side, to front, but the middle of the crowd was the place to be. People formed dance circles, people raised junior Cameron Ely, and people were having a good time.
“It was fun, but like the second time we tried it, people dropped me. It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience but it was fun and I hope that it happens again next year. I think some people weren’t feeling it as much as others but the music was good and I had a great time,” junior Cameron Ely said.
As prom ended and everyone made their way out of the event center, the post prom started only 1 hour after the event ended. When the time struck 11 p.m., people were let into post prom to find a beach/tiki themed gym filled with games, prizes, food, drinks, karaoke, and many other things. Couples wore matching outfits, singles found friends to play games with, people left with prizes, it was a fun day for everyone.
“I loved prom where it was this year. It was my favorite place from recent years. The staff was so kind` and so helpful to work with. Another cool thing about this year was that I went to Lowes and asked for a discount on fake plants and then they gave us a 50% discount. At the end we gave all the fake plants to the key club and then they gave those fake plants to Miller’s Merry Manor nursing home. So I guess you could say I was very happy,” junior class sponsor Tamara Mills said.
