Mrs. Patton teaches her first period ICP class.
Biology and Integrated Chemistry and Physics (ICP) teacher Rachel Patton is one of the newest members on the MHS staff team, although this is not Patton’s first time in a classroom
Along with five other schools, including PHMS, Patton has never officially taught a high school class. Patton says she is excited to step into a high school classroom, and understands what a normal high school student goes through. Patton wants her students to know that what ever is going on, school or personal, she is someone that they can come too for help.
“I have a daughter in high school, so I understand there is a lot to balance between school, friends, work, and family. If you are having a ‘moment’, let me know. I will try to help, even if that’s just listening,” Patton said.
Patton attended Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, earning a undergraduate and master’s degree in Middle Childhood Education. Since then, she has 17 years of teaching. Within those 17 years, a majority of her classes were science, but she is also a licensed math and language arts teacher.
Members of Pattons ICP classes say that they enjoy her approach to teaching. Junior William Corder and sophomore Jayden Bollin are both members of Pattons ICP class, and say that her techniques have helped them in the classroom.
“I like how as soon as we get in the class, she starts to teach the assignment,” Bollin said.
Corder is more focused on how his work has seemed to gotten easier with Patton, while teaching the same material.
“She’s teaching it to you so well that it makes it easy,” Corder said.
Patton is extremely excited for the new school year, and is already glad about the energy that Mooresville has shown her.
