The Boys Varsity Basketball team is hyped for week one coming up. They are currently going through their practices, getting conditioned and putting in the work. The head coach for Varsity, Shabaz Khaliq, is confident in the rotation setup.
“Right now we are trying to find out what lineups work well for us, what combinations we wanna see, particularly heading into the scrimmage. Also we got to make sure our guys know what their responsibilities are offensively and defensively. We are trying to put the pieces in the right place, trying to figure each other out. We got some new guys and some guys who have an opportunity to play varsity basketball. We only have one person returning who played heavy minutes for us, so it’s about who can do what is in the process of being successful,” Khaliq said.
Junior Bradley Robbins is optimistic about the upcoming game. He along with the whole team, are aiming for the win. They are wanting really competitive this year.
“Our expectations consist of going out there and competing to win. All of us are hungry to win games. That’s why I feel like we’re going to be so tough to beat because the whole squad holds each other accountable every day,” Robbins said.
One player for Varsity Jayce Nielsen suffered an ankle injury but has high hopes for week one. Even after being out for a couple weeks, he had good things to say about his team.
“I feel that the team will do pretty good to be honest. We’ve been moving the ball really well in practice, working hard, and playing as a team,” Nielsen said.
Overall everyone is confident for the season, with the next game on December 2, against Terre Haute South Vigo, there is a lot to fight for.
