Friendsgiving was held by the Mooresville High School’s Earth Club on November 16, 2023. It was Earth Club’s spin-off of Thanksgiving, exactly a week after Friendsgiving. Members of Earth Club showed up to the Friendsgiving with their dish that is environmentally friendly or local foods to cook their dish.
Science teacher Melissa Burger is the advisor of Earth Club.
“Earth Club is doing a Friendsgiving where they are trying to find environmental recipes to share with the other members. Some of them are talking about going to local places like local apples, meats, etc. to reduce carbon impacts or carbon footprints because when we travel, fossil fuels come about,” Burger said.
Science teacher Richard Pitcock has been a mentor for Earth Club since 2023.
“What I like about Earth Club is the involvement in what takes to be a part of something that is going to be better for our environment. Friendsgiving will be a part of the environmental change, with the foods being locally grown and environmentally friendly. I like the coming together and the mindset of how important it is,” Pitcock said
Junior Adilynn Breedlove has been the president of Earth Club since 2023.
“I created a social media account called mhs_earthclub on Instagram. I am bringing chocolate chip cookies to Friendsgiving. We increased our number of students of Earth Club members since Tori and I became presidents. I have been in Earth Club since 2022 and have been a president since 2023. The idea of Friendsgiving is very nice, the environmentally friendly food and locally grown food was such a great idea,” Breedlove said.
Junior Halle Brown has been in Earth Club since 2023.
“I brought butternut squash and my favorite part was trying all of the plant-based foods for the first time,” Brown said.
Conner O’Hanlon has been in Earth Club since 2023.
“I brought peanut butter banana oat bars to Friendsgiving. My favorite part thing was trying all the different vegan foods that I had never had the opportunity to have before. That was my first Earth Club meeting,” O’Hanlon said.
