This past summer Mooresville Art Teacher Allyson Avery took a group of students on a trip that was a unique opportunity to visit Italy.
The group spent ten days overseas and saw a plethora of amazing things and places. The trip was not just exclusive to art students, as Avery allowed anyone the opportunity to sign up. She did highlight the different art in many places but this was to just further the experience for those on the trip. She ended up taking eight Mooresville students with her as well as two chaperones.
Avery was inspired to take this trip because of her love of art.
“I have always wanted to visit Europe, and what better place for history and art than Italy!” Avery said.
Over this ten day trip the group got to experience a wide variety of new places in Italy. The group started in Venice to do some sightseeing and then from there they traveled to Florence. They also visited San Gimingnano, Pompeii, Capri, and Rome.
Both Avery and Junior Addison Farley stated that their favorite part of the trip was visiting the Island of Capri. Although the two found it spectacular for different reasons.
“My favorite part was swimming in Capri,” Farley said.
“I would visit all of the cities again, but the Island of Capri was amazing. We visited an ancient monastery that is now an art museum as well, we climbed to the top of the island to see the natural Arch and swam in the sea. It was a magical day! We also had the most amazing sandwich, for only 7 Euros. Fresh baked bread, mozzarella, seasoned tomatoes, and capicola! ,” Avery said.
This trip was an opportunity to go out of the country and experience a different culture and views that some students may never get again. The food, the scenery, and the art were all a highlight of Italy that the entire congregation of students got to enjoy.
Avery is planning to take another group of students to Ireland and Scotland in 2026 to experience even more of the amazing art and history of the world. She will be hosting a parent meeting on Monday, September 16 in her classroom, V103. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. and Avery will give out more information about the trip.
