As 2025 begins, students and teachers alike at MHS are setting resolutions for personal and academic growth. From travel aspirations to professional development, the start of a new year brings a renewed sense of purpose. Among these who seek self-improvement is AP Spanish Teacher Kristin Robinson, who has both personal and professional goals in mind.
For her AP Spanish students this year, she had them recreate a cherished Spanish tradition tied to the new year. She explains it as such, in Spain it’s customary for families to have 12 grapes in a bowl at midnight on New Years Eve, as the clock strikes 12, each grape represents a wish for the upcoming year. For each of the chimes on the clock, they eat a grape to make their wishes for the year ahead. Each one grape represents one month of good luck. She recreated this idea by having her students write in Spanish on each drawing of a grape to represent this tradition.
“It’s a fun and meaningful tradition that I always think about during this time,” Robinson said.
Senior Kylie Williams is one of the students in this class that participated. She shares many different resolutions through Robinson’s activity. Williams resolutions stand to be more academic, wanting to maintain her 4.0 GPA.
“I want to finish the year strong, I’ve worked hard for this and I’m not going to let up now,” Williams said.
Another AP Spanish student, Lillian Crumpacker created her very own list of moving forward. This year will be a lot of milestones for seniors, with graduating and possibly moving out.
“I think this year will be a lot different going from a kid in high school to an adult in college,” Crumpacker said.
