One of Homecoming’s biggest traditions is the girls powderpuff game. Each year, the girls in each grade level get to sign up if they want to play in the tournament. However, there needs to be at least ten girls on each team. Each grade level has a teacher as their coach who are also required to go to the practices and the games. The seniors had science teacher Kayla Dow and special education teacher Melissa Bell. The juniors had Spanish teacher Tamara Mills. The sophomores had math teacher Kelly Blackwell and the freshman had science teacher Oggy Brewer.
“We tried to pump the girls up for their game while cheering them on,” Bell said.
They had practices on the Monday and Tuesday before the tournament. The game was on Wednesday September 17th at the football field. The admission to get in was $3.00. All the money they raised donated to Riley Children Hospital. The games started at 7 p.m. and ended at 8:30 p.m. with each game being around 40 minutes long. The games are also more intense than the practices but it is important to get along with the team.
“One of the hardest parts is to form a solid team and get along with each other. It can be hard to do so because we have very little time to prepare for the game,” senior Hannah Bradberry said.
Overall the games were very fun and the girls had a blast playing. The seniors were able to beat the freshman but the juniors were able to be the seniors. Many memories were made as the girls have an amazing experience.
“I feel each of the teams did really well. It was definitely a tough competition but it was a really fun experience,” junior Emma Jess said.
