A new Student Center has opened up in Room A106. With the help of Principal Wes Upton, Vice Principal Zachary Love, Vice Principal Owens, Social Emotional Learning Coordinator Emily Roscoe and tons of others, the Student Support Center has had an amazing impact on so many different students.
“It’s a great place to help with study and social skills,” Roscoe said.
Many different classrooms got moved around, and the SSC got placed in A106. From things like tutoring to helping to manage mental health, the SSC has a variety of things to offer. Many students in every grade can go to feel safe, get work done, and can even go if they are having a panic attack.
“It is a place of refuge,” Upton said.
Students come into high school with many stressful things put in their hands. Between classes, homework, sports, extracurricular activities, getting ready for college and much more it can be a scary step in their lives. The SSC is a great place for students who are getting stressed out to go and unwind.
“It really helps people get more comfortable to ask for help,” Senior Kylie Keller said.
The SSC can help the students feel it is easier to ask questions if they are struggling. This can be beneficial to help students succeed, and do better in their classes. It could also help them get their homework done before the end of the day if they have a sport after school.
“Students can get the extra help they need,” Senior Kennedy Bohr said.
As the school year moves forward and more work is handed out, students will know of a place they can go to get work done if they need it or if they just need a safe space for comfort.
