The classes at Mooresville High School have a lot of different projects they are doing before Thanksgiving break. The English classes have students working on different essays and papers.
In IU English, students have an important essay they are writing. They are writing an analytical essay about current, popular, trends noticed in society. It gives students a way to expand their thinking capacity.
“It makes me think more about things I would not think about often,” senior Ava Hansel said.
Everyone has a different opinion on what they are writing about and what it means to them.
“I’m very passionate about the topic of current trends so that helps me write a little better,” senior Molly Reed said.
English teacher Lisa Globel talks about how writing these essays can help them grow in their writing.
“Having time to look over their essay, meeting with me individually or other peers reading it can help them” Gobel said.
The English 11 Honors classes are writing and revising Gothic Horror stories. They read Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Pit and the Pendulum”, “The Raven”, and “The Fall of the House of Usher”. They had a few days to write their stories out and get a few days to revise and edit them before turning them in.
“Coming up with a story idea that would meet the requirements was pretty hard,” junior Samantha Shelley said.
Coming up with a story idea can be a struggle for some students. It can even stress them out.
“It is very stressful to think about what you are going to write out,” junior Kynzi Hazlewood said.
Even with the stress of having to write your own short story. There is plenty of time to make sure it comes out as the best it can be.
“Time for working on revising and word choices are great to help students learn about the use of strong vocabulary,” Gobel said.
Students are working tirelessly to get their essays and short stories done before Thanksgiving break hits. It takes a lot of work and effort, but in the end they can make extraordinary papers.
