This past week the new movie Wicked came out. Wicked has been on Broadway since 2003 and has grown a huge fandom over the years. This movie is a remake of the musical with the actresses Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. It is originally a spin off of The Wizard Oz. They started to remake Wicked in December 2022. Fans are dressing up in pink and green to go see this in the theaters.
Junior JD Childress who has already seen this movie twice.
“I was so excited to see this movie, it was all I was thinking about. I had a personal connection to it since I struggled with bullying in elementary school,” Childress said.
This movie is already at 90% rotten tomatoes and has been out for less than a week. Movie theaters have released statements saying that the audience is not allowed to sing a long to this movie since it is not an official musical.
Senior Grace Holcomb went to the theaters to see Wicked also.
“I felt so much nostalgia walking into the movie theater. I saw it on broadway when I was 8 years old. It made me incredibly happy to see a lot of my favorite songs come to life. Wicked was my first broadway musical I ever went to watch so I definitely had a connection to it. I would recommend this movie because it isnt just about a girl who is green, and has been mistreated but who found her soulmate in bestfriend form. It goes to show that even in your darkest hours you can still find your person,” Holcomb said.
Wicked has had multiple showings and starting in late December where there will be sing alongs that will take place in the movie theater. This movie has made an impact on the new generations and has brought the older generations and newer generations together.
English teacher Lisa Gobel saw Wicked this past weekend.
“Watching Wicked was a magical, spellbinding experience. I was transported into another world where I felt like a student at Shiz university and visitor of Emerald City. I haven’t ever seen the Broadway musical but I have read the book and I do know how iconic Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth are in the musical so I appreciated their appearance. I thought it was cool to see them pass the baton to Ariana Granda and Cynthia Ervio. I highly recommend this movie to everyone, grab your broomstick and prepare to defy gravity,” Gobel said.
