This upcoming Halloween season Mooresville is trying out a new celebration that may become a tradition. Mooresville will be hosting the “Pioneer Pumpkin Party” as a opportunity for the community to celebrate. This will be hosted by Key Club, Best Buddies, NHS, and Student Council as well as many other clubs and groups who are participating in the festivities.
“We wanted one community event where everyone in the school has the opportunity to participate,” Key Club adviser Alicia Richhart said.
Groups that choose to participate will decorate a door in the high school with some kind of halloween theme. The event will be a trick-or-treat style where kids will go from door to door to get candy and such that each group is handing out. The party is on October 3o and will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m..
This is a night where there are almost no other extracurriculars going on to students are encouraged to create a group and participate by decorating a door. The link to sign up can be found here. Decorating a door is not limited to already established groups, if someone would like to participate as an individual or with just a group of friends they are encouraged to do so.
“I’m helping with the FCA door and the girls golf one. I’m excited to work together with my teams and get to see all the kids in their costumes,” Senior Addison Farley said.
On top of just being fun, this event will also be inclusive. For the first 30 minutes groups are asked to not have any loud noises or flashing lights that may be upsetting to those with increased sensitivity needs. This way everyone will be able to enjoy the festivities without worry of being overstimulated.
“I’m glad we decided to incorporate everyone, it’s a great opportunity for everyone,” junior Maelynn Cooper said.
This event is not just for Mooresville students either, rather the entire Mooresville community is welcome. Besides the door-to-door trick or treating there will be other things for people to enjoy like free popcorn, games for kids, an appearance from Pioneer Pete, and a photo booth.
The door decorating will also be a contest with the winning group receiving $100 and second place getting $50.
