National Honor Society is running a food drive for Mooresville High School over the next few weeks. Any donated food should be brought to the VLC where students can vote for a teacher to be pied in the face.
Students can vote for Jason Damron, Kamille Jacobs, Michael Butler, Sedrick Weinschenk, Morgan Mitchell, Kelly Blackwell, Kimberly Zook, and Kraig Kitts. As of Friday, April 17, Jason Damron is in the lead. Each food item has a different amount of points attached to it. The items that are needed the most are worth the most points.
NHS is looking for specific food items that can be used for bags named Pioneer Pantry Packs. These bags will be sent home with students and are able to be prepared easily and easily opened by younger children. This food drive ends Friday, April 24—however, donations can always be dropped off in the main office for the food pantry.
All of the food items donated will go to the food pantry that has recently been moved to Mooresville High School. The high school is partnering with Gleaners Food Bank so that the pantry has a stable supply of food.
“Our NHS officer team is working with our transition program to grow the pantry and serve more of our Pioneer family,” National Honor Society Advisor Jennifer Butler said.
Many NHS members are helping with the food drive. NHS Officer Parker Bohr in particular is heavily involved with this project.
“At the end of the day, nobody deserves to go without food, so we decided to do something about it,” Bohr said. “At some point in the future, we hope to grow and be able to provide hygiene products and other basic necessities for our Mooresville families.”
Getting food from the pantry is simple; just drive up to door 39 on the scheduled food pantry days, and boxes of food will be brought out. Those dates can be found at this website, along with other information.
