At the beginning of the second semester at Mooresville High School, a new hire was made—Casey Gillin. Currently, he is a math substitute, but he will also be the football team’s new coach.
Mooresville Athletic Director Matt Bosworth made the decision to hire Gillin, and he is confident in his choice.
“I love the start Casey is off to. He is trying to establish a culture of accountability so the team can care for each other,” Bosworth said.
Two years ago, Gillin was also Mooresville’s Offensive Coordinator for the football team, so some football players are already familiar with him, but he has also served as Quarterbacks Coach and Assistant Head Coach. Besides working with the Pioneers, Gillin was also involved with the University of Indianapolis for over a decade and, more recently, Wabash College. He was also Head Coach for Indian Creek High School’s football team for three years.
Already, Gillin has begun making plans for the upcoming season.
“First and foremost, we want to make sure our players are doing the right things in the classroom and growing as good human beings. From there, we’re reloading our culture. Our culture statement is ‘Out Work and Out Love to Reach Our Full Potential,’” Gillin said.
There are plenty of players on the team and shifting the culture could help them get along with each other a little bit better.
Junior Beckham Bunten is going to be on Mooresville’s football team this coming season. He played for Gillin in his freshman year, and he is optimistic about the changes Gillin is planning to make.
“I think this season will go really well because Gillin will bring a lot of new systems to the team,” Bunten said.
Football season hasn’t yet begun. Right now, Gillin is also serving as a substitute math teacher.
Sophomore Izabelle Wolff is one of the students in Gillin’s class.
“He helps us in class with what we don’t understand, but also we have Mrs. Carlsberg helping with teaching math,” Wolff said.
