On Tuesday October 21, MHS students were gathered in the South Gym of the high school for what they thought was a PSAT pep rally. Little did they know, they had won the Operation Football 2025 Spirit Award.
Operation Football, run by WTHR, goes around the Indianapolis area and covers the games. Each week, they have votes between schools to see who will get their morning pep rally. This year, Mooresville, Tri-west, and Speedway competed to see who Dominic Miranda, the anchor for Operation Football, would visit. The race was close between Speedway and Mooresville, but Mooresville pulled away with it. Curry Crazy senior Finley Zollman was in agreement that it’s important to cheer on the school at all functions.
“Being a Curry Crazy and all shows how we as a school should cheer on our sports no matter what and be there for everybody,” Zollman said.
Friday, September 19, Operation Football visited Mooresville High School on the morning of Homecoming. The spirit was alive in the crowd. Between crowd surfing and good vibes, Dominic Miranda left Mooresville with a different feeling than the other schools.
Fast forward one month, and the competition for the Spirit Award was underway. The Operation Football Spirit Award is given to the school who had the most energy with their rally. Many schools, including Mooresville, were in consideration for this award.
The day before PSAT testing, Mooresville students were informed they had a pep rally scheduled to go over the schedule and give students confidence in their test scores. MHS Principal Wes Upton started the rally off by welcoming the students and shooting a few T-shirts into the crowd. Shortly after, Principal Upton shared a few details about the PSAT day.
Dominic Miranda, hiding in the school holding the Spirit Award, interrupted Upton. The student body realized this was not just a PSAT pep rally. They had just won the Spirit Award. The student body was full of excitement during the football season, and Varsity cheerleader Natalie Davis said it was important to train the student body in having that school spirit.
“Showing the people in our school that its important to show out and show up because it gets us rewarded for just being a good motivated and spirited school,” Davis said.
Mooresville Athletic Director Matthew Bosworth acknowledges this wouldn’t be possible without the student body.
“The Athletic Department felt like we were presented with an opportunity, but it was our student body who truly took advantage of it and ran with it. Their energy, their pride, and their willingness to step up and represent Mooresville in such a positive way is what made the award possible. We’re just proud to support them,” Bosworth said.
The student body was led in an “Operation Football” chant, and celebrated their recent success. They even attempted to crowd surf Principal Upton across the bleachers. You can check for more details on Operation Football’s website!
