The Mooresville swim and dive team has started off with a record breaking season with many school records being set and personal records being made at almost every meet. According to many members of the team, this season has felt different and the team bond is strong. The team has already set many records with both the boys and girls setting news ones for the 400 yard relay.
“Swim can be rough, but it brings us close together, because we’re all going through it as a crew. We’re with each other a lot, so we have a lot of time with each other in the mornings and in the evenings and at meets and such, team dinners, whatever. We’re just with each other a lot,” senior Diesel Molin said.
Molin has been swimming for almost his entire life and continues to show his growth by breaking records. He shows no signs of slowing down and plans to continue his swimming career with his commitment to Ball State University.
As everyone knows, with the highs that come there are some inevitable losses, but that does not diminish the team’s spirit. After a tough loss against Center Grove the team recollected and used that fire to keep going, but even stronger.
“That’s the worst I’ve done in a hot minute. And then conference, which I won. So that’s a high,” junior Mackenzie Pierson said.
Pierson is the only female diver the team has and continues to show off her skills at every meet.
This season has been a time of growth for almost every member of the team with several swimmers setting their own personal records.
“Me cutting that time put me on pace halfway through the season of where I needed to be pretty much at the end of the season,” Enkhorn said.
Senior Jacob Gainey took a year off swimming, but has rejoined the team this year with high aspirations.
“It was a struggle at first to stay on pace because everyone else had last year, but I got it together and I’m back in the groove,” Gainey said.
Senior Lylah Theriac also had an amazing season where she broke many of her own records as well as school records. Theriac advanced all the way to state where she placed second overall in the 100 yard Butterfly.
The swim and dive team recently had their senior night where they were able to celebrate each other and the dedication for the team. Mooresville took home first in the meet.
“While the final score favored Mooresville, Senior Night was about more than wins. It was a reflection of a program built on leadership, trust, and joy—where seniors were celebrated, underclassmen were empowered, and the entire team embraced the moment,” coach Jonathan Theriac said in his recap of the night.
