Girl’s Wrestling is a very physical sport where girls get to compete on the mat to see who has the most fight. Sweat and tears are put in trying to become the best.
The four State Qualifiers for this year’s Individual State from Mooresville include Kaydie Epley, Cadence Williams, Khloe Weber, Leyah Johnson
Junior Cadence Williams won the Individual Regionals after winning the Individual Sectionals. With having a lot of practice she has become one of the most lethal competitors on the mat to anyone that steps in front of her.
“The highest part of my season would be winning Regionals and making it to State. I have an individual record of 31-3 and I hope to place well at Individual State,” Williams said.
Junior Kaydie Epley was another individual champion of the Regionals. With speed on her side she poses a great threat to all other competitors at the tournament.
“The better environment we’ve had on our team this year has really improved what we were able to accomplish” Epley said.
Coach Daniel Mikesell is the head coach of the girls team. With an automatic spot in the IHSGW Team State Mikesell hopes to place well with a very talented group of girls.
“Coaching these girls has been really fun. They all have unique personalities and talents. I have really taken pride in watching the development of our new girls and the continued success of our experienced girls” Mikesell said.
Freshman Khloe Weber advances to Individual State with a 26-2 record. She has clearly shown the wrestling world that even if your a freshman that wont stop you from being one of the best.
“The best part of my season was probably being able to advance as far as I have, especially in my freshman year. It’s a miracle that in my first high school season I get to compete at State and have a run for State Champion” Weber said.
Mooresville congratulates the girls team for all the hard work they’ve put into this season. Four girls make it to individual State and they are also participating in team State. It is great momentum when they compete to see who the best in the state is.
