Mooresville’s Spell Bowl team is small but mighty. Coached by Professor Andrew Marine, the team of 12 attended the “Spellapalooza,” which was hosted by Cascade High School. Three other teams showed up: Ben Davis, Avon and Cascade High School. Mooresville held on to third place, until finishing in fourth. Each speller was given nine words out of a 2,200 word list. Each correct word translates into a point for the team.
“I thought we were competitive. There were times where we were moving towards second place. I think we have a fiery group who [are] hungry to win,” Marine said.
The team fought for second place before falling to fourth, but they’re ready to bounce back when they travel to Ben Davis in October.
“I would say it went swell, even though we lost, we all performed.” Senior Brooke Wilson said.
Wilson was one of Mooresville’s top spellers at the competition. The team is ready and eager to compete at their next competition, the Ben Davis Invitational on October 11th.
