It’s that time of year again for the choir department. Competition season is just around the corner for Spotlighters, Finesse, and Nexus. From practices with choreographer Jenifer Toney to early morning bus rides, choir kids are filled with excitement.
Spotlighters and Finesse both have two hour practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week during competition season. Finesse practices from 3:30 to 5:30, Spotlighters practice from 5:30 to 7:30. These practices help make sure the choreography is clean, together, and has lots of energy, and to help with anything vocally.
Each morning for a competition, choir kids have to wake up extra early to get to the school on time. It is important that they do so, so they do not miss the bus. Sometimes they might not even leave a competition until midnight. These days are definitely filled with exhaustion, stress, but also fun and excitement.
“It is my first year, but it has definitely been a good year. I was so excited when we won Grand champions at Southmont,” sophomore Tara Heuchan
The choirs went to Southmont High School this past Saturday. Both Finesse and Spotlighters made it to finals where they swept the floor and took home everything. They both won Grand Champion with many more extra awards. They also won best choreography, best vocals, and best show concept. Even winning the best spirit award for the entire school.
“I was excited to actually be able to watch my choirs perform and see them be so happy from the results of their hard work,” Choir Director Jason Damron said.
