    Allergy Season Begins
    Allergies

It’s springtime again, and that means its allergy season. The weather is constantly changing in Indiana. It ranges from hot to cold and then back to warm again. With this weather taking place, allergies are on the rise.

Having allergies is a tricky. Allergies happen because its the body’s way of reacting to the pollen and other things that are stirred up when it gets warm outside.  There is medicine that can help allergies have less of an impact and  not be as harsh.

Nurse Melissa Wymer shares how to help prevent allergies.

“If you are prone to allergies, make sure to take a shower right when you come inside. Also try to avoid touching your face as much as possible. Whenever my husband mows the grass, he wears a mask and it helps his allergies not react as bad” Wymer said.

Always wash your hands when coming back inside and try not to sit in the grass too much. Continue to take vitamins. Orange juice is a great way to fight off allergies as well. Over the counter Claritin and Zyrtec help as well. It’s a good idea to take these medications a few weeks before allergy season so that it is in your system once it starts.

Senior Piper Allman has had allergies her whole life.

“I take medicine and if my eyes are itchy I usually flush them out with water. I’m always careful when going outside when the pollen count is high,” Allman said.

Junior Katie Bradshaw explains what she does when she has allergy flare ups.

“Whenever my allergies are acting up, I usually just sleep it off. It helps and I usually don’t feel as weak afterwards,” Bradshaw said.
